A series of one-night-only performances directed by a range of artists. Each performance had a distinct look, informed by the director’s vision, which was translated into multiple digital and print assets.
El Ciclón
A multi-disciplinary performance directed by Yara Travieso. Ryan Hartley Smith was commissioned to make artwork that served as the basis for all the creative. The artwork won a prestigious Gold Medal in Advertising in from the Society of Illustrators.
Romeo + Juliet
A Miami street style “Romeo & Juliet” directed by Tarell Alvin McCraney. Using an iconic image of Shakespeare as a visual anchor, the design incorporated typography from vernacular signage in various Miami neighborhoods as well as drag culture.
Jay Scheib’s Carmen
A multi-media work-in-process, “Carmen” was based on Bizet’s opera with a nod to the adaptations by Godard and Preminger through the lens of Hemingway. I used an abstracted image of a spanish dancer and handwritten typography to convey the work’s mix of traditional and experimental elements.
